Lady Pioneers see
win slip away in
final few minutes
In other non-league action
Unioto and Adena win while PV loses at Peebles
The first game Saturday at the Zane Trace Tip-Off Classic was by far the
day’s best game as two of the top southeast programs in Alexander
and Zane Trace got together for a TVC vs. SVC non-league battle. The
game was a match-up of two carbon-copy teams that saw a pair of hard-
nosed defenses making points tough to come by throughout the game.

After the first three quarters never saw a team open up more than a two
possession lead, Zane Trace was able to finally grab control taking a 47-41
lead with less than two minutes to play. Unfortunately, this is the point
where things started to go wrong for the red, white, and blue. Zane Trace
missed the front end of a bonus situation at the line and then committed
two costly turnovers. On each ensuing possession for Alexander, the Lady
Spartans were able to score cutting the ZT lead to two at 47-45. On the
final Alexander possession, Morgan Grinstead was able to get in the
middle of the Zane Trace defense and convert an old-fashion three-point
play to give Alexander a 48-47 win.

Erin Dailey was named the team MVP for Zane Trace. The senior had a
great all-around game stuffing several columns of the stat sheet. Dailey
scored 10 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, blocked six shots, dished out three
assists, and recorded three steals. Kelsey Dunkle also had a nice offensive
day knocking down four triples on her way to a team-high 16 points.
Sierra Sigman was also in double-digits with 10 points.

The loss drops ZT to 1-1 overall. On the day, Adena and Unioto recorded
non-league wins while Paint Valley was unable to protect a double-digit,
first half lead at Peebles.
