OVERTIME HEARTBREAK
Late regulation lead doesn't hold up for Pionners
Playing against the unbeaten Green Devils of North Adams, Zane Trace just kept hanging around through the first three-quarters. This is when ZT star Kirk Maxwell simply took the game over and with less than a minute remaining, the Pioneers found themselves the owners of a three-point lead. On the next possession, District Player of Year Kraig Unger - who ZT held to just 14 points on the evening - dialed up from long distance to tie the game at 44-44. Zane Trace did have one last chance but a turnover did not allow them a chance to win, so the game headed to overtime. Zane Trace was up 50-49, but another North Adams triple made the score 52-50 and ZT would never lead again as North Adams went on to win it, 56-50.

Maxwell was the only Zane Trace player in double-figures with 24 points. Gabe Haynes scored nine points, but continued his incredible postseason defense playing a major role in Unger scoring only two-thirds of his season average. Senior D.J. Merriman scored eight points in his final career game, and junior Rick Chamberlin scored only six points but did grab a team-high 13 rebounds.

Zane Trace ends the season at 14-10. The Pioneers return four starters and several key subs as well. This is sure to make the Pioneers one of the favorites for 2009-2010.
