| ATHENS - The Mustangs stormed out of the gates to a 9-0 lead only to see Chesapeake come back to lead 15-13 after the first period. The two teams traded the lead a couple of times early in the second quarter. With the game tied at 20-20, WF exploded scoring 18 of the game's next 23 points to enjoy a 38-25 advantage heading to the break. Westfall continued to dominate in the third period leading by double-digits most of the way and still by eight entering the final quarter. Westfall stretched the lead back to double-digits and led by as many as 13 late in the game; however, the 'Peake had one last run left in them. Mixing clutch shooting from the field, great shooting at the line, and poor decision-making from Westfall, the Panthers closed the gap within one possession. Chesapeake had a chance to get even closer, but two Tyler Cobb rebounds helped complete the 76-71 win. Bryant Gibson scored a team-high 25 points for Westfall (18-5). Cobb scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Travis Burleson scored 14 points. Tyler Smith and Zak Smith both contributed some great bench minutes for a Westfall team that has been pretty much five deep over their great late season run. Next up for Westfall...a third shot at Piketon. This time the SVC Co-Champs will play for a district crown. The match-up will take place next Saturday night back at the Convo in Athens. |
