Westfall falls to Tigers in Division-IV Regional Quarterfinal
Tigers rush for 445 yards in win
Leading 28-14 in Friday night's regional quarterfinal, Westfall had a chance to extend its lead against the
"run" first Tigers and possibly start to make them question their game plan. The Mustangs were unable to
score, and Ironton answered with a score to cut the lead to 28-21 at halftime.

It was also Ironton's ball to start the second half and the Tigers put together another scoring drive which
ended in Keith Wetzel's fourth of five touchdowns to tie the game at 28-28. Westfall looked as if they
would answer when D.J. Cain hit Ben Cline for a 39-yard completion down to the two-yard line;
however, two plays later Cain was sacked forcing WF to settle for a 31-yard field-goal from Cameron
Puckett. After Ironton's next touchdown - a 37-yard run from Chance Freeman, Westfall had a chance
to regain the lead with first-and-goal at the eight with just over seven minutes to play. Cain was running a
quarterback keeper up-the-middle, but just short of the goal line the ball came loose traveling into the end
zone. Ironton recovered for a touchback. It had marked the second time Westfall was first-and-goal in
the half; however, those two drives combined only for three total points.

With the clock working against Westfall, the Ironton rushing attack started to put the game away. On the
night, the Tigers rushed for 445 yards and all six touchdowns came on the ground. In the loss, Cain was
incredible. The senior signal caller was 21 of 35 for 385 yards. He threw two scores and rushed for
another. Ben Cline also scored twice - one rush, one catch. Another bright spot for Westfall was Puckett.
The senior place-kicker was 4-for-4 on PATs to go with his 31-yard FG.

Westfall built the afore mentioned early lead by taking the opening drive 65 yards on nine plays. The drive
ended in a 5-yard TD run from Cline. Westfall also scored first half touchdowns on passes from Cain to
Tyler Cobb (2 yards) and Cain to Cline (77 yards). Cain also rushed for a score on a third-and-goal
situation from six yards out.

Westfall ends its season at 8-3. The Mustangs will enter next fall the owners of a current 26-game SVC
winning streak - a conference record. In Coach Scott Keller's first two seasons, Westfall has won two
conference titles (two golden footballs), reached the playoffs twice, and was in last year's state final four.
