| HUNTINGTON FALLS TO ALEXANDER FOR RUNNER-UP FINISH | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Huntington was able to hang with last year's state runner-up Spartans for most of game one Saturday afternoon; however, the tough Alexander serving started to take control of the match. Wheelersburg stormed back to take game three, won game four, and had an early lead in game five. That is when WF found a way to regroup as they found a way to capture the district title in five - 28-26, 25-15, 24-26, 21-25, 15-11. | Westfall completes first-set comeback and then rolls in straight sets | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| After two nights of the SVC having its way down at Athens, it was an all-SVC match-up that took the district stage Thursday night. It was Westfall and Southeastern for the third time this season, and even with the first two ending in incredible five-set wins for WF, round three started out like it was going to produce another Southeastern threat. Southeastern put themselves in great position to take early control of the match; however, with the Lady Panthers leading 24-19, WF scored six straight points to take a 25-24 lead. After an Olivia Arledge kill, the Mustangs scored two straight to take game one 27-25. This momentum carried over to game two with Westfall taking complete control winning 25-16. At this point, it appeared the Mustangs would roll in straight sets, but Southeastern still had a run in them. The Lady Panthers started game three scoring 11 of the first 14 points, but once again it was Westfall storming back to take the lead halfway through the set as they went on to complete the straight set win with a 25-18 third set win. The loss ends a fine season for SE - a season that saw the Lady Panthers win 12 matches and their first sectional title since 1996. Southeastern was led by Olivia Arledge with 12 kills and two aces. Kaitlin Duarte had 24 assists while Bailee Cox and Catherine Dresbach both recorded 14 digs. For Westfall (14-10) in the win, Suzy Gantz recorded 17 kills, 15 digs, and two aces. Setter Hannah Gabriel dished out 31 assists and had 11 digs while Nicole Ratcliff had 15 digs and two aces. The Mustangs will return to Athens on Saturday to play Wheelersburg for a district championship. This match will mark the 11th time in 12 years that the Mustangs have played for a district title and nine times they have captured the title. |

| Little problems again for SVC in Athens Lady Huntsmen beat Coal Grove Dawson Bryant to advance |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Lady Huntsmen jumped out early in game one and was never really challenged in a straight set district semifinal win over Coal Grove Dawson Bryant. Huntington served 23 aces in their dominate win. Dakota Collins produced 10 of those aces. Sophomore Megan Fultz had 14 kills and 10 digs. The win sends Huntington to Saturday's final against Alexander. The Lady Spartans have been the southeast's best team over the past two seasons. | Adena rolls to easy district-semifinal win over Oak Hill Lady Warriors advance to Saturday's district final |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Scioto Valley Conference champions had little problem with Oak Hill in Tuesday's district semifinal at Athens. The Lady Warriors just missed the shutout in game one winning 25-2, and then cruised from there winning the next two 25-10, 25-12. Ashley Jordan led the Warriors with 13 kills and 2 blocks, while setter Cadie Cory dished out 24 assists. Kirsti Yates added 7 kills and 5 aces. The win moves Adena to 23-1 overall, and they will return to Athens Saturday at 4:00 to play in the district championship against Minford. The winner of that match will advance to the sweet-sixteen which will be held at the Convo on the campus of Ohio University. CLICK HERE TO VIEW BRACKET! |

| SECTIONAL FINALS: Up and down round for SVC | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Scioto Valley Conference champion Adena made quick work of Paint Valley as the Warriors outscored the Bearcats 75-15 in the straight set win. Westfall didn't need much longer to defeat visiting West Union, and Huntington also made quick work of Eastern Brown. The Lady Panthers of Southeastern continued their great rebuilding season as the blue and white went on the road and knocked off Trimble. Unfortunately, some of the other teams found themselves on the other side of the scoreboard. Top-seeded Unioto was beaten in straight sets by Chillicothe, and ZT had their season come to an end with a straight set loss at Federal Hocking. | VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT: Adena & Unioto earn top-seeds in sectional play Overall seeding goes well for SVC; Several teams have realistic sweet-sixteen runs |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sunday afternoon was high school volleyball's version of Selection Sunday as coaches from all over the southeast got together at Jackson High School to vote for seeding in the upcoming tournament. Due to the large number of schools in Division-III in the district, the southeast will once again get three teams out to the regional tournament. Adena's 19-1 record was more than enough to help earn them a top-seed. Other top-seeds went to Alexander and Wheelersburg. Huntington earned a #2 seed and will play in Alexander's bracket while Westfall (#3), Zane Trace (#4), and Southeastern (#7) all will play in Wheelersburg's bracket. The good news for these three league schools is that they are all away from one another in the early rounds which means all three could capture sectional titles. Paint Valley earned the #8 seed up in Adena's bracket. If the Lady Bearcats beat Peebles they would meet Adena in the sectional final. Piketon earned a #10 seed. If they are able to win a first-round game against Eastern, they would have to upset Huntington in the final to reach the districts. Click here to view the D-III tournament brackets. Unioto, the conference's only Division-II team, earned a top-seed. Despite the hard hit the purple and gold took from last year's graduation, the Lady Shermans will enter this year's tournament as favorites to defend their district crown.
