Lady Warriors to play for the
state championship
The first three sets Friday afternoon had fans on the edge of their seats. Adena was able to win the two
opening sets, and after dropping game three, the Lady Warriors rolled in game four to put themselves just
one win shy of high school’s ultimate team prize.

In the opening set, Adena overcame a somewhat slow start to turn a 15-10 deficit into a 24-20
advantage. After Smithville survived the first three set-points, Adena benefited from a service error which
gave the Warriors the all-important first game.

Game two was tight as well, but this time it was Adena who was forced to survive set-points. Smithville
was leading 24-22, but Adena’s Allison Morgan delivered key plays at the net that sparked four
unanswered points to give Adena the 26-24 win and a two games to none advantage in the match.

A quick Smithville start to game three proved to be too much for Adena to overcome; however, it was
Adena starting quick in game four to complete the semifinal win and move into Saturday’s final.

Stat leaders for the Lady Warriors included Kelsey Bielanow with 15 kills and six blocks. Olivia Arledge,
who enjoyed a great height advantage on the backside all match long, chipped in 11 kills and two blocks.
Kirsti Yates added eight kills, 19 digs, and a block while Jenny Grigsby added eight digs. Hannah
Halcomb recorded 15 digs and 33 assists and Cara Coy had eight digs while Morgan chipped in with six
kills and three blocks.

For Smithville, All-Ohio middle hitter Jenna Pew was as advertised. Pew had 29 kills, 16 assists, 16 digs,
two blocks, and three aces. Alex Leister added 14 kills and 15 digs.

The loss ends Smithville’s season at 26-3 overall while the Lady Warriors improve to 26-2 and will
return to Wright State on Saturday hoping to bring home a Division III State Championship. The Warriors
will face Huron who came from behind to defeat Middletown Fenwick in five sets. Match time Saturday
will be 3:00 p.m. SVC fans, if you are unable to make the game, you can listen on the radio with pre-
match beginning on WKKJ (94.3 FM) at 2:40 p.m.
