One mile marker to go on Perfection Road.

Improving to 19-0 on the season, the Unioto Lady Shermans cruised to a 56-38 home floor win over the Piketon Lady Redstreaks on Thursday, capping an unbeaten home season for the Tanks, the No. 5-ranked team in the latest Ohio Associated Press girls basketball poll.

The Lady Tanks stand at the brink of greatness.

With a regular-season ending win at Huntington on Saturday afternoon, Unioto could cap its first undefeated season in 15 years, going 20-0 for only the third time in school history. Additionally, a win over the Lady Huntsmen Saturday would earn the Lady Tanks their record-setting fourth Gold Basketball, emblematic of an undefeated (14-0) double spin through the Scioto Valley Conference.

No girls team in the 32-year history of the SVC has earned four Gold Basketballs.

Fittingly, Huntington, winners of the last Gold Basketball awarded by the conference three seasons ago, will try to spoil Unioto's masterpiece. It was the Lady Huntsmen who last ran the SVC table at 14-0 in the 2005-2006 campaign.

In front of a large Senior Night crowd at Unioto Thursday night, senior point guard Shiann Ray – bound for Ashland College on a hoops scholarship – shined with 15 points for the winning Tanks. She got help from sophomore pivot Mackenzie Arledge with 10.

Senior Taylor Corcoran and junior Liza Elliott added eight apiece for the Lady Shermans.

For Piketon (10-9. 5-9 SVC), senior Keia Cade led with 10 points. Senior Heather Burns added eight markers while freshman Alex Southworth scored seven.
Senior night in Bainbridge equals a win for the Lady Cats
Sophomores Abbie Walls and Dacia Posey shared game-high honors with 14 points, and seniors Tristan Rumfield and Erica Barker - both playing at home for the final time - posted solid nights to lead PV to a 50-37 win over Southeastern.

Rumfield scored nine points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and dished out four assists, while Barker scored a dozen and handed out six assists.

For Southeastern, both Merrilee and Catherine Dresbach scored 10 points, but it was sophomore Allison Augustine scoring a team-high 13 points to lead the Lady Panthers.

Pioneers and Warriors share second place at 11-3
