Wednesday afternoon marked the first of eight rounds in the chase for the 2009 title for golf in the Scioto Valley Conference. The eight league schools got together at Big Beaver Creek Golf Club in Piketon, and in the end, Unioto shot a 164 - a score good enough to earn them eight first-place points in the league standings.

The Tanks were able to slip past Huntington by one shot. Huntington - the defending champs - was led by Duane Irvin. Irvin and Zane Trace's Drew Davis both fired rounds of 36 to share medalist honors. Unioto was led by a round of 38 from Drew Nichols.

The depth of the Shermans proved to be the difference in this one. Unioto sixth-man Michael Smart carded a 41.

Listed to the right is a rundown of every player from every team Wednesday night. SVC Match #2 is scheduled for Tuesday at Dogwood.
