| UNIOTO'S GUMM NAMED DISTRICT PLAYER OF THE YEAR | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Unioto senior Morgan Gumm has been named Distirct Player of the Year – an honor that will make her All-Ohio First Team as well. The Mount Vernon Nazerene-bound soccer player recorded 46 goals and 77 assists in her outstanding career. Gumm, who also is a key member of the highly successful Unioto girls’ basketball program, scored 15 of those goals during her senior season.
In 2010, Gumm helped Unioto to the regional final, and then, this year – despite Unioto losing some key players to injury – Gumm and the Lady Tanks finished just one win shy of returning to the regional tournament. SVCsportszone.com would like to congratulate Morgan. I do not know Morgan, but from watching her compete on the soccer field and the basketball court, I would describe her as a great leader and simply as a winner. |

| UNIOTO FALLS ONE WIN SHORT OF RETURN TRIP TO REGIONAL | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Unioto and Chillicothe both made an early trip to the beautiful facility at Jackson Saturday morning to play for the Division II District Championship. Chillicothe defeated Unioto 3-1 to earn the trip to the regionals. The Chillicothe win comes just a few weeks after Unioto had beaten the Lady Cavs 6-1 in a regular season match.
The two teams were scoreless for 32 minutes before Chillicothe scored two goals to take the lead at the break. In the second half, Unioto’s Kyleen Muirhead scored to cut the lead to 2-1. It appeared Unioto would then tie the match when Muirhead found the net off of a Morgan Gumm corner kick, but the officials waved off the score as they felt the Chillicothe goalie was touched. Unioto ends the season at 12-3-3. |
