The Unioto Lady Shermans soccer team is coming off their best season in their three year history with a
record of 8-8-1 which included their first ever tournament win and are looking to improve even more in

The Lady Shermans will be lead by four, 4-year senior Captains in Liza Elliott, Amber Leeson, Jill Grim
and Ashley Osborne (who unfortunately suffered a season ending injury in preseason play ). They will be
aided by the sophomore trio of Erin Bane and Morgan Gumm who combined for 24 goals and 19 assists
last season and Lydia Simpson.  Also expected to see significant playing time will be incoming freshmen
Mallory Retherford, Kyleen Muirhead, Danielle Cremeans and Cassidy Gray. Other returning players
who are expected to contribute are Catie Anders, Rachael Baker, Abby Bates, Clair Bechie, Hadee
Bettendorf, Lydia Detty, Haley Gray, Alexis Manazer, Kelsey Roush and Danielle Williamson. Freshmen  
Emily Corcoran, Aly Cutright, Marissa Downs and seniors Olivia Morgan and Makiah Payne round out
the Lady Sherman roster.
The Unioto Lady Shermans soccer team trailing 1-0 with 21 minutes rallied to defeat Minford 3-1 to pick
up their first win of the 2009-2010 season.

Erin Bane led the Shermans with 2 goals while Morgan Gumm had 1  goal and 1 assist.   The goalkeeper
tandem of Jill Grim (3) and Liza Elliott (4) combined for 7 saves.  Unioto outshot the Lady Falcons 37-5.

Unioto is 1-0 and will host defending Southeast District champion Circleville on Saturday at noon.

Sophomore Erin Bane scored three times Thursday night to help lead Unioto to a 6-3 win over the Lady
Blue Lions of Washington Court House. Morgan Gumm added two goals and an assist, while teammate
Lydia Simpson scored once and assisted on another. Abby Bates added an assist.

Unioto is now 3-1 and will host Jackson on Tuesday.
ZANE TRACE SOCCER: Boys record easy win; Girls end in tie
In Saturday soccer, the Zane Trace Pioneers battled Eastern Brown on both the boys and girls side. In the boys
contest, Zane Trace had little trouble recording a 5-1 victory. The girls played the Lady Warriors to a 1-1 tie.

IN OTHER ACTION SATURDAY: Unioto's boys defeated Waverly 3-1.

Unioto girls continue winning ways with Thursday night win
over Miami Trace; Boys fall to Lancaster
Thursday night the Lady Shermans of Unioto defeated the Lady Panthers of
Miami Trace 5-2. Erin Bane continued her fine sophomore season scoring two
goals and assisting on another. Morgan Gumm recorded a goal and an assist
while Lydia Simpson also scored a goal. Kyleen Muirhead scored on a penalty
kick and Danielle Cremeans added an assist.

In boys action, the Shermans fell to Lancaster 2-0.

Zane Trace boys record solid win over Bishop Hartley
Unioto's Erin Bane scored four more goals in the Shermans 6-1 win over Athens Saturday night. Lydia
Simpson and Liza Elliott added the other scores while Elliott and Cassidy Gray each added an assist and
Morgan Gumm dished out three assists. In boys' action, Athens defeated Unioto 3-0.

In other Saturday soccer, Zane Trace's boys team recorded a 2-0 win over Bishop Hartley.

Halftime lead doesn't hold up for Lady Tanks
Big second-half pushes Amanda past Unioto
Unioto enjoyed a 2-1 halftime advantage against a really good Amanda team, but the
second half saw the Lady Aces outscore the purple and gold 4-0 to post a 5-2 victory.
The road win for Amanda improves their record to 8-1. Amanda had been unbeaten
until this past Saturday when they fell to Lancaster 3-2. Prior to that loss, Amanda had
gone four matches without allowing a goal.

In the loss for Unioto, Morgan Gumm recorded an assist and a goal. Erin Bane also
scored a goal and teammate Lydia Simpson dished out an assist. The Lady Shermans
fall to 6-2-1.
Winning night for SVC Soccer
Unioto Boys & Girls, ZT Girls all pick up wins Thursday
The Unioto girls soccer team improved to 7-2-1 with an 8-4 win over Leesburg Fairfield (6-4) Thursday night. In the win, the
Morgan Gumm to Erin Bane combo continued to play a key role for the purple and gold. Bane scored four times while Gumm
dished out five assists and added a goal of her own to help lift Unioto to a bounce back win after losing to Amanda earlier this week.

Also for the Lady Shermans Kyleen Muirhead added one goal and one assist while Amber Leeson scored a goal and Danielle
Williamson dished out an assist . The other goal was accidentally kicked in by a Fairfield Leesburg player.

In other action, Unioto boys also defeated Leesburg by a score of 5-0. The Lady Pioneers were also in action and they were 2-1
winners over Whetstone.
Gumm leads Lady Tanks in blowout win over Hamilton Township
The Lady Shermans had little trouble in improving their record to 8-2-1 Monday night as they beat
Hamilton Township 10-1. Unioto's Mogan Gumm had a big night scoring 4 goals and assisting another.
Erin Bane and Amber Leeson both scored two goals and added an assist while teammates Lydia
Simpson, Danielle Williamson, Liza Elliott, and Catie Anders all scored a goal.

In other action, Zane Trace defeated Fairfield Union 2-1.
The Lady Shermans defeated the Logan Elm Braves on Thursday,
by a score of 4-3.  Erin Bane led Unioto with 2 goals and 1 assists.  
Morgan Gumm also scored 2 goals, and Lydia Simpson added 1
assists.  The win runs Unioto's record to 9-2-1.

Bane scores three times in victory over McClain
Unioto continued their fine 2009 season with a 5-0 road victory at Greenfield McClain. Erin Bane recorded another great night in
the win scoring three goals and assisting another. Morgan Gumm dished out three assists - one of which coming on a Gumm corner
kick wich resulted in a header goal from Kyleen Muirhead. Rounding out the scoring for the Shermans, Abby Bates scored a goal
and Amber Leeson added an assist. In the shutout effort, Unioto had a nice defensive effort by Mallory Retherford, Lydia
Simpson, Alexis Manazer, Danielle Cremeans and Liza Elliott.

The win improves the purple and gold to 10-2-1. Unioto travels to Albany Thursday to battle the Lady Spartans of Alexander.
In soccer action Tuesday night, the Pioneers of Zane Trace put eight goals up on the board to record an 8-3 win. On the
girls' side, the Lady Pioneers were held scoreless in a 4-0 loss to Teays Valley. The Lady Pioneers fall to 6-4-3.
Big second half lifts Lady Tanks to road win over Lady Spartans
Alexander scored first Thursday night, but Unioto responded with seven unanswered goals to win it 7-1. With the score tied at 1-1 at
the break, Unioto used a big second half to pull away. Morgan Gumm led the way with a goal and three assists. Erin Bane scored a
goal and dished out an assist while teammates Lydia Simpson, Kyleen Muirhead, Mallory Retherford, and Amber Leeson all scored a
goal. Cassidy Gray added an assist. The other Unioto goal came when on a cross by Bane that deflected off an Alexander defender.
Unioto is now 11-2-1.
SATURDAY SOCCER: Lady Tanks Win Again; Zane Trace boys & girls win with matching scores
Erin Bane scored two more times bringing her season total to 32, and teammate Kyleen Muirhead added a score as well as the Unioto
Lady soccer team beat Minford 3-0 to improve to 12-2-1. Morgan Gumm and Mallory Retherford each added an assist . Unioto
welcomes Chillicothe Tuesday in the final regular season match.

In other action, the Unioto boys tied Alexander 1-1 Saturday night.  The Zane Trace boys and girls defeated Lynchburg Clay. Both
teams won 3-1. The sectional draw for soccer is tomorrow (Sunday).

SVC teams found out Sunday their seeding for the "second season"
Boys D-II: Zane Trace is a #3 seed and Unioto is a #5 seed

Boys D-III: Adena is a #6 seed (note: This is the first year for Adena soccer)

Girls D-II: Unioto earned a top seed and Zane Trace is a #3 seed
SVC SOCCER TEAMS IN ACTION...Tuesday, October 13th
Chillicothe handed the Lady Shermans just their third loss of the season Tuesday night. Chillicothe beat Unioto
5-2. After the Cavs scored first, Mallory Retherford scored off an assist from Morgan Gumm to tie it.
Chillicothe went back up 2-1 when Erin Bane scored to tie it; however, an offsides call erased the goal.

Chillicothe then went on to score three more times to take a 5-1 lead. Bane scored a late goal for Unioto. Senior
Eliza Elliott recorded 14 saves on senior night. For Chillicothe, Brooke Haynes recorded a hat trick in the win.

In boys' action Tuesday night, Unioto lost to Circleville 2-1. Zane Trace boys' soccer picked up a win over
South Webster winning 4-3.

Gumm finds the net twice to
lead Lady Tanks
Ball control was the key Thursday night as Unioto out-shot Fairfield Union
22-7 and outscored them 3-0 to advance in the Division II tournament. All
three goals came after the half for Unioto as Morgan Gumm scored twice, Erin
Bane scored once, and Abby Bates and Danielle Cremeans both dished out an
assist to lead the purple and gold. Liza Elliott recorded four saves.

Unioto wasn't the only SVC team that won a
sectional title Thursday night as Zane Trace
defeated Circleville 4-2 to advance to the district

Tuesday, Unioto plays Leesburg  at Chillicothe.
Wednesday, ZT plays Eastern Brown at
Chillicothe. If the two SVC teams win...they meet
Saturday for a district title at Chillicothe at 4 p.m.
The ZT boys matched the girls by winning the sectional
championship on Saturday. ZT defeated McClain 6-1.

In other action, ZT boys fall
Leesburg found the net first Tuesday night, but Unioto answered with two goals before the half and added another goal after the
break to take a 3-1 lead. Leesburg scored to cut the Unioto lead to 3-2, but a final Unioto goal pushed the lead to 4-2 - a score that
served as the final score for the match. Unioto's first and third goals resulted in headers off of Morgan Gumm corner kicks - first
from Lydia Simpson and the second from Kyleen Muirhead. The second Unioto score was an Erin Bane to Gumm goal, and then, the
final goal was scored by Bane and assisted by Cassiday Gray. Unioto produced 28 shots on goal while Leesburg had just eight.
Unioto's Liza Elliott recorded four saves.

Unioto did their part Tuesday night in a very physical match, and now, the SVC will be pulling for Zane Trace in their semifinal
match Wednesday night. A ZT win would give us an all SVC final Saturday afternoon at Chillicothe.

In other tournament action, the Zane Trace boys dropped a tough, 1-0 decision to Marietta in the D-II boys' district tournament
Tuesday night at Lucasville Valley High School.
Lady Pioneers beat top-seeded Eastern Brown
The night after Unioto advanced to the district title round, Zane Trace defeated No. 1 seeded Eastern Brown by
the score of 3-2 to join Unioto in what sets up to be an all SVC district championship match. The battle for the
district crown will take place Saturday at Chillicothe with a start time of 4:00 p.m.

Dye to Roll equals regional for Lady Pioneers
In Saturday's all SVC final between Unioto and Zane Trace, both teams went to halftime in a scoreless battle.
Zane Trace scored twice to start the second half (goals by Megan Jaruwannakorn and Rachel Hutton) only to
see Unioto answer with goals from Abby Bates and Morgan Gumm to tie things back up at two apiece with just
over two minutes to play.

With the game clock showing less than a minute to play, Zane Trace found the net on a corner kick - Megan
Roll from Kayla Dye - to win the district title 3-2 over their SVC rival.
