| SVCsportszone.com Staff In a pair of physical, hard-fought defensive struggles, a pair of SVC teams beat two of the top Division II programs Saturday night. Adena beat McClain 45-43 and Zane Trace defeated Vinton County 38-36. The win for Adena keeps them pefect at 6-0. On a night where Clay Roll was held in check, the other Warriors were up to the challenge as Buddy Barnes scored 12 points, Ben Bower scored 9 points, and Zach Skaggs and Eamon Boyle both added 8 points to earn the win. For Zane Trace, it was Rick Chamberlain recording a big block on a potential Vinton County basket with a few seconds remaining. Kirk Maxwell scored 12 points to lead the Pioneers to the win. Gabe Haynes added 11 points. |

| The Lady Vikings of Vinton County scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 39-39; however, Zane Trace responded with a 20-9 run to end the game. The win gives the Lady Pioneers their second big non-conference win over the holiday break. Zane Trace also knocked off Wheelersburg earlier this week. In the win, Mackenize Tatman scored 16 points, and Sierra Sigman scored 11 points and grabbed 10 boards. Jess Roepke also contributed nine points and 15 boards. In other action, Unioto survived a tough trip to Logan Elm to stay perfect, and Adena had its five game winning streak snapped with a loss at Oak Hill. |

Washington C.H. sharpshooting sophomore Kyle Slone scored 22 points and the Blue Lions cruised to a 48-31 non-conference win Friday night over the winless Unioto Shermans. The Blue Lions (6-0) led at all stops, including 14-7, 27-16 and 38-21. Junior Casey Shaw added nine points. Washington C.H. starts three juniors and two sophomores. The lone bright spot for the Tanks was the play of senior Alex Kimsey who grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds. The 6-11 pivot also scored nine points and blocked five shots. Kimsey is averaging 9.3 rebounds and 5.1 blocked shots per game this season while leading the Shermans' anemic offense with an 8.0 average. Unioto will host the Huntington Huntsmen Friday night in conference play. The Tanks' Dec. 23 varsity game at Jackson was postponed. No make-up date is set yet. |

| Westfall and Piketon earn out-of-conference wins! Bearcats pick-up first win! |

| Westfall got 18 points, eight steals, five rebounds, and three assists from Bryant Gibson to defeat Amanda 58-50. Tyler Kritsch also added 18 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists in the win. The Mustangs are now 5-1 overall. In the Pike County Holiday Tournament, Piketon recorded a 72-58 win over Western. The Redstreaks will return to the Waverly Downtown Gymnasium on Tuesday to play the hometown Tigers (who beat Eastern in the other semifinal) for the county title. In the win, Cody Smith led the Redstreaks with 22 points while point guard Evan Legg added 19 points. In other action, Paint Valley picked up its first win at the Williamsburg Holiday Tournament. Matt Workman scored 14 points to lead Paint Valley and sophomore Aaron Claytor added 12 points. The Bearcats will return Monday night to play for the championship. |
