ATHENS - What many thought would
be one of the better match-ups of the
day, ended up being 32-minutes of
Piketon dominance. The Redstreaks
led at all stops 17-10, 31-18, 41-25,
and finally 65-43.
Piketon's size and athleticism led by
Caleb Southworth made points at the
rim tough to come by as Ironton was
held to 25 points in the first 24 minutes
in Piketon's easy district semifinal win.
The Redstreaks did struggle on the
boards against the strong, athletic
frontline of Ironton, but the Fighting
Tigers were unable to convert.
On the offensive end, Piketon's big
three all enjoyed solid games. Jordan
Brabson needed 22 points to join the
1,000 point club and that is exactly
what he got. Evan Legg added 19
points and Cody Smith - a 1,000 point
scorer himself - chipped in with 13
points and seven rebounds.
The Redstreaks (21-2) will now face
the challenge of beating Westfall for a
third time. The two Scioto Valley
Conference rivals meet next Saturday
in the district championship.
