Haynes helps Pioneers to one-point victory WIN
#10

Unioto stays perfect
Zane Trace's tough non-league schedule continued Saturday night as the Pioneers traveled to Vinton County. The Vikings led at the first two stops (15-12 after one and 20-18 at the half). Vinton County then had a chance to take complete control in the third quarter, but ZT did a great job of playing through the Viking run. Vinton County opened up as much as an eight point lead, but a Joel Tripp three-pointer and a Gabe Haynes bucket helped ZT cut the lead to five at the end of the third period at 32-27. This ZT run continued as the Pioneers eventually tied the game at 34 and then took the lead at 35-34.

The two teams then traded the lead throughout the fourth quarter. Zane Trace was able to get offense from a variety of places as Haynes, Kirk Maxwell, and Drew Davis all scored as the lead changed hands six times in about a three minute span. As for Vinton County, point guard Andy Grillo played a big part in keeping the Vikings close with several trips to the free throw line and a big triple.

Finally, with the game tied at 44 Vinton County's Grillo missed two free throws. Following a questionable 10 second call on ZT, VC's Levi Lawhead was fouled and was only able to hit one of two. With VC up 45-44, Gabe Haynes was fouled and the senior delivered both FTs to give ZT the 46-45 win.

The return of Haynes didn't take long to impact Zane Trace. Haynes scored 10 points including the game winners at the line. Maxwell had somewhat of a quiet night by his standards, but as all great scorers do, he still manged to lead the Pioneers with 13 points. Another key note in terms of ZT scoring, Dallas Cochenour scored all eight of his points in the first half to help ZT hang close.

The key stat in this game was the free throw line. Vinton County shot 21 times from the charity stripe but made only eight. Zane Trace was 82-percent at nine -of-11.
The Lady Shermans put 73 points on the board Saturday night to record a 26-point victory over Amanda.

Mackenzie Arledge scored 21 points as Unioto is now 10-0 on the season.
