Saturday evening in Athens, the Lady Warriors were defeated in straight sets by the Lady Spartans of Alexander. This marks the second straight season that Adena has reached this level only to have their season end in straight sets against Alexander.
Entering the game, two areas of concern for Adena had to be the tough serving game of Alexander as well as the match-ups in the middle. Cadie Cory, who entered Saturday averaging around 11 assists per game, was held to just 23 assists which shows the tough time Adena had in getting their passing and their offense going. Cory was able to get Ashley Jordan involed with 16 kills; however, the Lady Warriors never really did get any consistent offense at the net. Defensively, Adena did contain Alexander's fine outside hitter Whitney Smith (just 8 kills), but middle-hitters Betsy Irwin and Megan McCoy combined for 22 kills and six blocks.
The loss ends Adena's fine season at 25-2. Senior Megan Purdin had 12 digs in her final game wearing the two-shade blue. In the past two seasons, Purdin and the other seniors have won back-to-back gold balls in the SVC and have twice finished regional runner-up. CLICK HERE TO LOOK BACK AT ADENA'S SEASON!
