Talented Waterford squad too much for Lady Bearcats
Division IV District Semifinal  *  Jackson High School
For the second straight season, the Lady Bearcats of Paint Valley have seen their season come to an end
in the Division IV District Semifinal against Waterford at Jackson High School. Waterford jumped out fast
straight from the tip and never looked back as the Lady Wildcats defeated Paint Valley 65-31.

Waterford wasted little time scoring right off the tip to take an early 2-0 advantage. The Lady Wildcats
used a variety of pressures to cause nine first quarter turnovers to take a 21-5 lead at the end of one
quarter of play. Paint Valley looked as if it were going to settle in at one point as Amber Lewis and Dacia
Posey recorded back-to-back put-back buckets to trim the lead to 13-5; however, Waterford quickly
responded to score the final eight points of the opening period to take control.

Paint Valley did settle down somewhat in quarter number two. The Lady Bearcats cut down on the
turnovers which forced the game more into a half court battle. Paint Valley did a nice job defensively
holding Waterford to 3-of-17 shooting in the second eight minute segment, but the Lady Bearcats were
unable to generate much offense of their own as Waterford led 32-11 heading to the half.

Any hopes of a Paint Valley, second half comeback were squashed somewhat quickly in the third quarter.
Waterford’s defensive pressure once again started to take control of the game.

The Lady Wildcats caused 20 turnovers while putting four different girls in double-figures in terms of
scoring. For Paint Valley, the Lady Bearcats say goodbye to only two seniors, but the two are a pair of
four-year letter winners in Abbie Walls and Posey. Saturday was a tough day for Walls in terms of scoring
the basketball as she was held without a field goal as she finished with just two points. Despite the tough
finish for Walls, the Paint Valley guard finishes a solid career with close to 900 career points and two
sectional titles. For Posey, she also earned the two sectional nets. Posey was the only Paint Valley player
in double-figures Saturday as she posed nearly half of PV’s total with 15 points.
