SVC FOOTBALL  *  Week 8
Reid runs
Adena to SVC
lead
Warriors beat Mustangs 40-7
Dove finds the end zone
late, Bearcats edge
Huntsmen 13-12
Both these rivals entered Friday
night at Huntington looking for
their first win. Paint Valley scored
first on a Mark Clifford run and
Garett Tyree's PAT made it 7-0.
Huntington answered with a Scott
Perkins to Jon Mainers for a
score, but the PAT was no good
giving PV a 7-6 halftime lead.
Depsite the missed PAT,
Huntington was in good shape at
halftime considering PV had
missed two first half FGs and had
a TD called back.

Huntington responded in the
second half as Perkins found
Mainers again at the end of the
third quarter to give Huntington a
12-7 lead. The game stayed this
way until late. Both teams took
turns turning it over until finally PV
took advantage of a short field
when Brennan Dove found the
end zone to give PV a 13-12
lead. Tyree sealed the deal with
an INT.

Dove had over 90 yards on the
ground and caught three balls for
over 50 yards. Clifford recorded
70 yards to go with his TD.

Panthers hold on to beat Redstreaks
Southeastern jumped out early on a pair of TD passes from
Christian Colburn. The first was a 20-yard strike to Michael Brown
and the second was a 10-yard score to Ray Drake. Southeastern
added to their 13-0 halftime lead in the third quarter with a 31-yard
FG from Adam Cottrill.

Jamie Helton responded for Piketon. Helton threw TDs on passes
of 73 and 50 yards. The two-point try was good the first time, but
the second time failed leaving SE up 16-14 - a score that would end
up being the final winning total for the Panthers.

Colburn threw for 109 yards while Steven Hall rushed 10 times for
65 yards. Drake also ran for 42 yards while Cottrill added 29 yards
on the ground. The Southeastern defense was outstanding in the win
as SE caused three fumbles and recorded three INTs. Southeastern
did not have a turnover.
Down 14-0, ZT scores 31
unanswered to win over Unioto
Unioto's Brick Davis hit Walker
Liston on a 60 yard scoring play,
and then had another big pass play
that set-up a Jarrod Cyrus TD run.
This all came early in the first
quarter and Unioto was out to a
14-0 lead.

This is when Zane Trace took over
the game. The Pioneers had a huge
night on the ground. Matt Marnell
rushed 14 times for 131 yards and
two scores while quarterback
Colton Whitehouse recorded 157
yards and two TDs on 12 touches.
The other offensive star for ZT
was place-kicker Nick Ganus.
Ganus, who kicked a 40-yard FG
with 15-seconds to go in the first
half to give ZT a 17-14 halftime
lead, scored seven points on the
evening.

TONIGHT'S UNIOTO/ZT GAME
The first possession Friday night was a hint of everything to come in
Frankfort. Adena’s Kirk Yates picked off a Trent Williamson
pass. Reid Hutchison wasted little time on the ensuing drive as he
scampered 30-yards for a TD. The rest of the evening saw more
Westfall mistakes leading to a big dosage of Hutchison as Adena
rolled to a 40-7 win.

Hutchison had another workhorse-type night with 32 carries for
268 yards and three touchdowns. The Adena offensive line
dominated Westfall as the Warriors ran for 427 yards. Yates added
104 yards through the air including a long TD pass to Colton
Wheeler. Collin Detty also scored on a TD run.

The turning point in the game came late in the second quarter. With
Adena leading 19-7, Westfall was preparing to go into their two-
minute offense. A Westfall fumble resulted in Adena’s Jacob
Bowdle picking the ball up and sprinting 13 yards for a TD that
really served as the final knockout punch.

Westfall was led on the night by Williamson. The sophomore
quarterback threw for 189 yards. He threw one TD in the first half
to Cody Moore.
